Former Residence of Li Kenong (Exhibition Hall)

The Former Residence of Li Kenong (Exhibition Hall) is a cultural relic protection unit of Anhui Province, a classic red tourism destination, and a patriotic education base.

Li Kenong (1899–1962), a native of Chaohu County (now Chaohu City), Anhui Province, was an organizer and leader of intelligence and security work for our Party and army, an outstanding social activist and diplomat, and a loyal proletarian revolutionary.

In 1999, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Comrade Li Kenong’s birth, his former residence was restored in Zhongli Village, Tongyang Town, his hometown, and an exhibition hall showcasing his life and achievements was built. Cultural relics and photographic materials were also collected for display. It officially opened to the public in September of the same year. In 2003, it was expanded. Currently, the Li Kenong Memorial Park covers an area of 1,521 square meters, with a building area of 550 square meters. The museum houses over 200 cultural relics. In 2003, it was designated as an “Anhui Provincial Education Base.” In 2004, it was listed as a provincial-level key cultural relic protection unit. In 2005, it was rated as one of the top ten red tourism attractions in the province. In 2007, it was awarded the titles of “National Education Base” and “Anhui Provincial Patriotic Education Base.” In 2008, it was designated as the “Revolutionary Tradition Education Base of the Intelligence Front of the Chinese People's Liberation Army.” Since its opening in 1999, the Li Kenong General Memorial Hall has received over 800,000 visitors.

Main exhibits at the Li Kenong General Memorial Hall include: First, the former residence, a two-courtyard, two-wing farmhouse with gray brick walls and tiled roofs, showcasing farming and household items. Second, the exhibition hall, displaying photos (and text) about General Li Kenong’s life and achievements, along with some physical objects (revolutionary relics). Third, the screening room, which shows the TV series Li Kenong and publicly available documentaries about the covert operations front. Fourth, a half-length bronze statue of the general and a screen wall in the park. The front of the screen wall features the full text of “Loyal Heart Left in the World, Glorious Deeds Passed on to Posterity,” written by former President Yang Shangkun for the 90th anniversary of Comrade Li Kenong’s birth, while the back displays a chronology of the general’s major life events.

Li Kenong was born in 1899 in Chaohu County, Anhui Province, and joined the Communist Party of China in 1926. He was a tested proletarian revolutionary, an outstanding social activist and diplomat, and an outstanding leader and organizer of the covert operations front of our Party and army. Throughout his long revolutionary career, with his boundless loyalty to the Party and a highly responsible spirit, he safeguarded the safety of the Party Central Committee at critical moments and provided decisive intelligence when needed, making significant contributions to the liberation cause of the Chinese people.

Zhongli Village: Zhongli Administrative Village in Tongyang Town, the hometown of General Li Kenong, is adjacent to Tongyang Town and borders Huangliu Town. It is located by Chaohu Lake, with Miaozhong Road and Binhu Avenue passing through. Each natural village is connected by cement roads and gravel roads. The agricultural production conditions are excellent, making it one of the more advanced administrative villages locally in terms of culture and economy.

The village administers 18 natural villages, covering a land area of 7,300 mu, with 4,340 mu of arable land, 1,320 households, and a population of 3,400, including 115 Party members.
