Chaohu Dong’an Forest Park

Dong’an Forest Park is located on the southern shore of Chaohu Lake in Anhui Province, about 5 kilometers from the city along the Chaolu Road. The park covers an area of 1,000 acres, featuring rolling green mountains, crisscrossing ravines, murmuring streams, dense forests, and the fragrance of flowers and birdsong. With its diverse natural landscapes, colorful forest scenery, and rich historical and cultural heritage, the park offers visitors a feeling of being in a paradise on earth, making it an ideal destination for modern travelers seeking leisure and vacation. The park has a forest coverage rate of 98%, with over 250 plant species from more than 50 families. It is home to the “King of Osmanthus Trees,” the oldest in East China at over 600 years old, a 500-year-old ancient ginkgo tree that provides dense shade, five types of nationally protected second-class rare tree species (including the famous “King of the Jianghuai Region,” the golden larch), and over 100 species of wild animals such as grey magpies, owls, and wild boars that inhabit the dense woods. Cultural attractions include the tomb of Zhang Wenzhong, a patriotic anti-Japanese general (Major General) and martyr (brother of Chiang Ching-kuo), which forms part of a small memorial garden, as well as the ruins of the Yuantong Zen Temple built during the Ming Dynasty. With the development of tourism in Chaohu, the park has added facilities for leisure, dining, and hotel accommodation to attract more visitors. Currently, over 30 scenic spots are open to the public, including Badou Peak, Lovers’ Garden, Drunk Immortal Valley, Happy Forest, Wild Boar Forest, Carefree Garden, and Pagoda Forest.

In addition, projects such as a tennis court, hunting ground, bird garden, and Yuantong Temple are under active planning and construction. The park has initially taken shape as a comprehensive forest park with fresh air, enchanting scenery, beautiful surroundings, and complete facilities.
