Ziwēi Cave Scenic Area is one of the core scenic spots of Chaohu, a national-level scenic area. Located in the northern suburbs of Chaohu City, it is just 4 kilometers from the city center. Covering an area of approximately 2,000 acres, the area features green mountains, clear waters, lush trees, and pleasant scenery. Ziwēi Cave, renowned as the “Number One Cave North of the Yangtze River,” was originally called Shuāngjǐng Cave (Twin-Well Cave) because it had two natural well-like entrances, one large and one small. It was later renamed Ziwēi Cave after the nearby Ziwēi Mountain. It is a rare, typical corridor-style underground river cave in China, boasting unique and abundant geological landform resources. It serves as a key field study site for geology students. The main cave stretches over 1,500 meters and is known for its grandeur, wonder, danger, and serenity. Inside the cave, there are also “Three Wonders” and “Four Uniques” among its many spectacular sights.

The scenic area boasts numerous attractions, especially the famous Ziwēi Cave and Wángqiáo Mystery Grottoes. There is also a Grand View Garden of Exotic Rocks with a rich variety of specimens, the Sìwàng Pavilion offering a panoramic view of the vast 800-li (400 km) Chaohu Lake, the Jiǔlóngbì Square featuring a meticulously carved dragon wall by a renowned Huīzhōu carving master that reflects the profound cultural heritage of Ziwēi Cave, the Bà’ēn Temple—a thousand-year-old temple embodying filial piety and gratitude to the nation, the Yīpǐn Fūrén Tomb nestled in the setting sun and green grass where time flows and seasons change, and the Qīhè Pond, where legend says the immortal Prince Qiáo once released his cranes while cultivating immortality on Ziwēi Mountain. Nowadays, though peach blossoms by the cave entrance bloom brilliantly in the spring breeze, Prince Qiáo is nowhere to be seen, leaving only visitors treading the misty paths alone.
