Tachuan is a cultural tourism attraction.

The area around the village entrance is lined with camphor trees, many of which are ancient and towering. In autumn, the mountains are ablaze with colorful foliage, set against the backdrop of white walls and black tiles, creating a breathtaking view. It has become a must-visit destination for photography enthusiasts.

Tachuan Village, also known as Tashang, is under the jurisdiction of Hongcun Town and just 2 kilometers from Hongcun. It is one of the many beautiful and fertile natural villages in Yi County’s Xiao Taoyuan, featuring its own unique charm.

Tachuan sits against the majestic Huangdui Mountain, part of the southwestern range of Huangshan, and faces the shimmering Shilipu Lake, stretching for ten li. Around twenty or thirty ancient dwellings, with their flying eaves and upturned corners, are built along the mountainside in terraced layers, creating a picturesque scene resembling a giant pagoda — hence the “Pagoda” in its name.

Tachuan lies between Ga’an and Di’an peaks (named after the former Xilin Temple monastery at their summits). A clear stream gushes from the ground and flows gently down the mountain, running through the village and straight toward the scenic Shilipu Lake — hence the “Stream” in its name. The village gains endless vitality from the stream flowing through it, while the stream itself becomes more lively as it winds past the “Pagoda.” This is how Tachuan got its name.

At the village entrance, visitors are greeted by several massive ancient trees, including camphor, torreya, and maple — this is the first scenic spot of Tachuan, known as "Five Trees Towering to the Sky." These centuries-old trees, each several people could hug, have weathered trunks that seem to recount the village’s long and storied history. The unique natural environment and diverse tree species give each ancient tree at the entrance its own distinctive shape.

Stepping into the grove of ancient trees, shaded by green canopies and covered in lush grass, one can feel the simplicity, harmony, freshness, and beauty of Tachuan Village.

Passing through the ancient woods and following the stone steps along the clear stream, you will enter Tachuan Village. Wandering through the village, you can experience the simple and genuine lifestyle of the mountain dwellers, as well as admire exquisite sights such as “Stream Wrapping the Front House,” “Orioles Singing Amid Bamboo Hills,” and “Tachuan Wonderland.”

It takes about half an hour on foot from Hongcun along the Hongsiji Road.
