The Hongcun · Qishu Lake Water Conservancy Scenic Area is a national water conservancy scenic area.

The "Hongcun · Qishu Lake" Water Conservancy Scenic Area is located within Hongcun Town in the northeast of Yi County. It consists of two parts: the ancient water system of Hongcun and Qishu Lake. During the Yongle period of the Ming Dynasty, ancient people diverted water from Yushan Stream into the village by building a check dam. The water flowed through large and small water channels, Moon Pond, and South Lake, running across the entire village. Stretching 1,268 meters in total, it was praised by United Nations experts as “a unique small-town water street landscape in the world.” Qishu Lake (also known as Dongfanghong Reservoir), which is directly connected to the ancient village of Hongcun, was constructed in 1967 and filled with water in 1970. With a water surface area of 3,000 mu (approximately 200 hectares) and a total storage capacity of 24.45 million cubic meters, it is the largest reservoir in Yi County. Primarily used for irrigation, it also serves flood control, power generation, and fish farming. Surrounded by rolling mountains and lush forests, it achieves an organic integration of Huizhou’s ancient culture and natural landscapes. It has now become an ideal destination for leisure, wellness, and getting close to nature.

The "Hongcun · Qishu Lake" Water Conservancy Scenic Area leverages its ecological landscape and ancient Huizhou architecture. Its natural and cultural sights complement each other, offering profound cultural heritage and diverse landscape features, making it highly valuable for sightseeing. We will continue to adhere to the principle of prioritizing protection with moderate development. While safeguarding water resources and water safety, we aim to promote the integrated development of culture and water resources, creating a nationally renowned water conservancy scenic area that combines water functionality, ecological conservation, cultural heritage, tourism, leisure, and science education.

Hongcun Town: Located at the southern foot of Huangshan Mountain, Hongcun Town is just 29 kilometers from the southern gate of Huangshan Scenic Area and 60 kilometers from Huangshan Airport, offering extremely convenient transportation. It currently governs 21 villages and 142 villager groups, covering an area of 187.1 square kilometers, with a permanent resident population of over 20,000 and a floating population of around 5,000. The area features overlapping mountains, dense forests and bamboo groves, and meandering clear streams, creating pleasant scenery. It boasts 14,318 hectares of forest, with a forest coverage rate of 77%. It is now recognized as an Environmentally Beautiful Township of Huangshan City, an Ecological Civilization Township of Huangshan City, and an Environmental Education Base of Anhui Province.
