The Lu Fu Hall

The Lu Fu Hall was built during the Kangxi era of the Qing Dynasty (1684 AD) and has a history of over 320 years. It was the former residence of Hu Jitang, the 26th-generation ancestor of the Mingjing Hu family. The hall features a front and rear section, both three-bay, three-story structures facing opposite directions. The living room is uniquely arranged, exuding an antique charm. In the rear hall’s terrace, there is a large pool constructed from blue stones sourced from Yixian County, serving the purposes of fish farming for ornamental enjoyment, humidity regulation, as well as fire safety water storage.

The Ying Fu Hall is the private residence of Hu Shangzeng, the highest-ranking official in Xidi with the rank of second-class official in the Qing Dynasty. Built during the Kangxi period of the Qing Dynasty, it is a traditional dwelling with a front and rear hall and a three-bay, three-story structure. The building is tall, spacious, elegant, refined, and rustic. The front hall displays a large central painting featuring "pine and crane." Above the central painting hangs a plaque inscribed with “Lu Fu Hall,” featuring bold and powerful calligraphy.

Xidi Village: Located on the southern foothills of the Huangshan Mountain Range in Anhui Province, Xidi Village is situated in Dongyuan Township, Yixian County, about 8 kilometers east of the county town. The road from Yicheng to Tankou passes northwest of the village.

The ancient dwellings of Xidi are largely well-preserved. Their architectural style stands out uniquely within the Huizhou school, demonstrating exquisite craftsmanship. The “Three Carvings” — stone carving, wood carving, and brick carving — are especially finely executed, with stone carvings being particularly outstanding. These elements serve not only as tangible artifacts for studying Qing Dynasty residential architecture but also as valuable resources for researching the socio-economic patterns of the Huizhou merchants, as well as the history of architecture and art since the Ming and Qing Dynasties.
