Deyi Hall

Deyi Hall is a typical Huizhou-style courtyard residence, built in the 20th year of the Jiaqing reign during the Qing Dynasty (1815). It is a two-story, three-bay structure with sixteen half-folded lotus-patterned doors at the front hall. There are passages connecting the indoor and outdoor areas, and a pond lies in front of the hall, with underground channels linking it to the water channels. The pond is surrounded by potted plants for all seasons, while the courtyard is filled with blooming flowers, sparse trees, and lush greenery—often referred to as an “open-air flower hall.” A kiwi vine from southern Anhui climbs up the eastern wall. The courtyard has two gardens, one open and one hidden, planted with fruit trees and flowers, alongside fish ponds, waterside pavilions, and a pool of clear water. Deyi Hall is a quintessential example of Huizhou-style private gardens.

Hongcun Village: Hongcun is located in the northeastern part of Yi County, Anhui Province. The village covers an area of 19.11 hectares. Established during the Shaoxi era of the Southern Song Dynasty (1131 AD), it has a history of over 800 years. Backed by the mountain ranges of the Huangshan foothills, such as Yangzhan Ridge and Leigang Mountain, the village sits at a relatively high elevation and is known as the “village in a Chinese painting.”

Hongcun is situated at the southwestern foot of Huangshan Mountain, north of Yicounty. The village spans an area of 4.1 square kilometers, with 768 acres of arable land, 13 villager groups, 437 households, and 1,368 residents.
