The Tao Xingzhi Memorial Hall in She County is a cultural relic protection unit of Huangshan City, a classic red tourism destination, and a patriotic education base.

The Tao Xingzhi Memorial Hall is located within the county of She. The memorial site was originally Chongyi School, where the great educator Tao Xingzhi studied as a child. It displays his personal belongings and his famous couplet, “Come with a heart full of love, leave without taking a single blade of grass.” Soong Ching-ling inscribed the words “Model Teacher for All Generations” for the Tao Xingzhi Memorial Hall.

The Tao Xingzhi Memorial Hall is located on Xiaobei Street in She County, Huangshan City, Anhui Province. The memorial hall was completed in 1984 and consists of an exhibition hall, a video screening room, a calligraphy and painting room, and five major exhibition halls. In the center of the exhibition hall stands a bust of Tao Xingzhi, above which is a plaque inscribed by Soong Ching-ling reading “Model Teacher for All Generations.” The front features a quote by Mao Zedong, “The Great Educator of the People, Mr. Tao Xingzhi,” while the screen shows Tao Xingzhi’s handwritten phrase “Love Fills the World” on the front and a quote by - reading “Study Tao Xingzhi’s Educational Philosophy to Promote Educational Reform” on the back. The pillars display quotes by Tao Xingzhi handwritten by Guo Moruo.

To the east, the Tao Xingzhi Memorial Hall overlooks Wen Zheng Mountain; to the south, it faces the Changqing Pagoda; to the west, it neighbors the Xu Guo Stone Archway; and to the north, it adjoins Chongyi School (where Tao Xingzhi studied as a youth).

The newly built section connects with the old museum, covering a total area of 1,700 square meters with a construction area of 3,600 square meters. Designed in the style of Huizhou architecture, it boasts gray tiles, white walls, high ridges, flying eaves, lattice windows and doors, Huizhou carvings, plaques and couplets, winding paths, corridors, and courtyard gardens—exuding the very essence of Huizhou culture. The name of the museum was personally inscribed by the then General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee - when it was first established in 1984 after three visits to Zhongnanhai.

Upon entering the gate, you are greeted by the grand and elegant Exhibition Hall, distinctive in style. The plaque inscribed with “Model Teacher for All Generations” shines golden, bearing Soong Ching-ling’s handwriting. Tao Xingzhi’s couplet “Come with a heart full of love, leave without taking a single blade of grass” reflects the lifelong creed he upheld. His educational maxim “Teach thousands of teachings to teach people to seek truth, learn thousands of learnings to learn to be true persons,” handwritten by Guo Moruo, is also displayed. On the central wall is the golden calligraphy “The Great Educator of the People,” stylish, bold, and powerful—a title bestowed by Chairman Mao Zedong upon Mr. Tao Xingzhi.

A 2.6-meter-tall statue of Tao Xingzhi stands tall in the center, portraying the majestic image of this great educator. He exudes extraordinary charisma and a radiant presence; he embodies universal compassion, upholds virtue, and dedicates himself to his work; he is passionate about education, constantly immersed in study; he bravely advances for the nation and its people. The white marble material symbolizes his pure and noble character. The statue’s rock-solid base signifies his unyielding strength. The surrounding pines and cypresses suggest that his words, virtues, and deeds will endure forever.

The exhibition halls are divided into seven periods showcasing the glorious life of Tao Xingzhi: born into a poor rural family, returning from the U.S. to stand at the forefront of the May Fourth Movement; serving as editor-in-chief of the New Education magazine and general secretary of the China Education Improvement Society, being among the first to focus on rural education and becoming a leader of the new education movement; traveling across the country to promote anti-Japanese education; actively participating in the movements against civil war, hunger, and for democracy.

Born on October 18, 1891, in Huangtan Yuan Village, West Township, She County, Anhui Province, he was intelligent and studious from childhood.
