Shendu Town

Shendu, located on the banks of the Xin’an River, is an important transit hub in Anhui Province along the golden tourist route from Huangshan to Qiandao Lake. It lies in the eastern part of She County and is under the jurisdiction of She County. Shendu has long been a vital waterway gateway from ancient Huizhou to Zhejiang and a key distribution center for goods. In those days, Huizhou merchants set off from here to journey downstream to the south and begin their trading careers.

The area boasts beautiful scenery, with a broad river surface flanked by towering peaks and verdant mountains and waters that captivate all who visit. In 979, Yao Zhizhong, the third-place scholar of the Chengdu Prefecture imperial examination, and his son Zhiyi, while serving in She County, fell in love with the landscape and chose to settle here. In 1159, another branch of the Yao family from Huzhou Prefecture migrated to the area, gradually contributing to its development into a prominent town in Huizhou during the Ming and Qing dynasties. This gave rise to the timeless saying: “Shendu’s ferry is deep, Shendu’s crossing is deep; the Yaos come and go, rocking both sides.”

Nestled against the mountains and by the water, Shendu Town is exceptionally picturesque.
