North Shore Corridor Bridge

The North Shore Corridor Bridge is a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

Located about 300 meters to the right of the Hang-Hui Highway in Beian Town, there are two small paths leading along the stream to the corridor bridge. Built over the Mianxi River in Beian, She County, Huizhou during the mid-Qing Dynasty, the North Shore Corridor Bridge is arguably the most uniquely designed and spectacular among Huizhou’s corridor bridges.

This corridor bridge is a three-arch stone structure, 33 meters long, 4.7 meters wide, and 6 meters high. The arched corridor is built with a brick-and-wood structure, standing approximately 5 meters tall. The walls of the corridors on the east and west sides feature distinct decorative styles: the eastern side has eight large square windows, each adorned with brick-carved patterns of turtle motifs or plum blossoms; the western side features eight lattice windows, with openwork designs shaped like full moons, ancient vases, leaves, and gourds. Symmetrical main gates are set at both the southern and northern ends of the bridge across the river, each with thick wooden doors that can be opened or closed. The south gate is inscribed with “Xiangxian Li” (Scholarly Neighborhood), accompanied by the side inscription “Xi Liu Yu Xiu” (Elegant Beauty Flows West); the north gate bears the inscription “Qian’an Jiuzhi” (Former Site of Qian’an).

The corridor is divided into 11 sections, with benches lined along the walls. Only the second section from the north end on the western side features a “beauty’s rest” (a traditional curved wooden bench by the window), naturally serving as an elegant seat reserved for local gentry and dignitaries, unlike the other benches.

In summer, free tea is also available at the bridgehead for visitors.

Protected Area: 10 meters outward to the southeast and northwest from the bridge along the street.

Construction Control Zone: 500 meters outside the protected area.
