Fengkou Four-Sided Memorial Archway

Fengkou Four-Sided Memorial Archway is a cultural relic protection unit of Anhui Province and a science education base.

Fengkou Four-Sided Memorial Archway is located on the roadside at the entrance of Fengkou Village along the highway from Huicheng to Xucun. It was built during the Jiajing era (1522–1566). The structure features four pillars and three storeys, with a square floor plan measuring 3.8 meters per side and a height of 11 meters. The beams and columns are made of granite, while the archway body and plaques are of purple sandstone. There are decorative floral arches beneath the ridge eaves, and the spandrels are carved with floral patterns. In reality, it is formed by closing off four single-bay memorial archways. On the southern plaque beam are engraved the characters “Tai Xian” (台宪), and the supporting panel notes “Zheng Qi, Judicial Commissioner of Yunnan Provincial Surveillance Commission.” Zheng Qi, a native of Fengkou, became a Jinshi (advanced scholar) in the 26th year of the Jiajing era (1547). The northern plaque beam is inscribed with “Imperial Grant” (敕赠) and “Court of Judicial Review” (廷尉), along with the note “Zheng Tingxuan, Left Vice Minister of the Supreme Court,” among others. Tingxuan received his enfeoffment as a result. The western side bears the words “Imperial Favour” (恩荣) and “Jinshi” (进士). The eastern side is left without any inscriptions. The structural form of this archway is truly rare.

This archway is one of the earliest surviving three-dimensional stone archways in Huizhou.
