Lu Xian Palace

Also known as Cave Immortal Shrine. Located in Shaxi Village, She County. Legend has it that during the reign of Emperor Dezong of the Tang Dynasty, Lü Dongbin came here, pointed to the ground to dig a well, and used the water from this well to brew wine, which turned out to be rich and fragrant in flavor. Later, people built a shrine here in his memory. The current shrine was rebuilt in 1613. The structure is 6 meters deep and 3.5 meters wide. In the center of the back wall is a stone carving of Lü Dongbin painted by Liu Lian, a painter from Qian County during the Wanli era. The carving is in intaglio lines, life-sized, with a long beard flowing, garments fluttering, standing atop a sword and crossing waves and seas. On the left and right walls are embedded four stone tablets. The well is located to the right of the palace. The well’s railing is made of cast iron and is octagonal in shape. The railing is 56 cm high, the base is 22 cm high, and the inner diameter of the well mouth is 56.5 cm. The outer wall of the railing is inscribed with the “Record of the Reconstruction of the Immortal Well and Installation of Iron Railing in Shaxi,” recounting the reasons for the well’s renovation. The base is cast with a coiling dragon design. The well platform is made from three large stones pieced together, adorned with a carved design of two dragons playing with a pearl. Nearby the well, there is an inscribed couplet: “A single grain brings millennia of grace, two streams shine through a hundred generations.”
