San Yang Hong Clan Ancestral Hall (Jingben Hall)

The San Yang Hong Clan Ancestral Hall (Jingben Hall) is a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

Era: Ming to Qing Dynasty

Address: Yecun Village, San Yang Town, She County, Huangshan City, Anhui Province.

The ancestral hall is backed by mountains and faces water, with a square in front. It features a layout of three bays, five rooms, and two courtyards, consisting of a memorial archway, main hall, rear hall, porch, and side chambers. The structure is intact and well-preserved. The entrance gate is built of brick, with four pillars in a three-bay, five-story configuration. Under the eaves are bracket sets, and the name plaques read “Imperial Favor” and “Shiguangdi.” The porch has a single-slope roof with five bays, and an ancient plaque inscribed “Splendor of Wufu in Rare Years” hangs from the rear eave. The main hall has three bays, with a flush gable roof and covered rafter ends laid with roof tiles. The two end bays on either side are separated by floor-length screens into side rooms, creating a spatial layout of three bays in the front and five in the rear. Inside, there are complete furnishings such as plaques, couplets, altar tables, and incense burners, with exquisitely crafted wooden components and delicate carvings. The rear hall has two stories and five bays, with five stone steps on either end leading up. The rear eave bay is fitted with wooden partition doors, and inside houses the ancestral shrine. The right end bay contains a staircase, while on the upper floor, the middle and side bays at the back have shrines, and under the overhanging eaves hang plaques reading “Imperial Honor” and “Five Generations Under One Roof.” The front flush gable structure of the main hall is exceptionally exquisite, with carvings on the bracket arms, pendant lotuses, tray brackets, and spandrels being richly ornate. The entire hall is coated in red lacquer.

The overall architectural form and interior furnishings of the Hong Clan Ancestral Hall are well preserved. Its grand framework, exquisite structure, and ornate carvings reflect architectural styles from different periods. It serves as an important physical example of Huizhou-style ancestral hall architecture and holds significant value for the study of sacrificial culture and clan systems in the Huizhou region.

On October 7, 2019, the San Yang Hong Clan Ancestral Hall was included in the eighth batch of National Key Cultural Relics Protection Units.

Protected Area: Beyond the house foundation, 10 meters to the east, west, and north, and 10 meters beyond the square to the south.

Construction Control Zone: 50 meters beyond the protected area in all directions—east, south, west, and north.

Yecun Village: Covering a total area of 6.62 square kilometers, Yecun Village consists of 10 villager groups, with 437 households and 1,456 residents. The San Yang Expressway interchange is located in Yecun. Known as the hometown of Zhuangyuan (Number One Scholar) Hong Jun, Yecun lies at the foothills of the Tianmu Mountain range on the Anhui-Zhejiang border.
