Wang Maoyin’s Former Residence is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Anhui Province.

Wang Maoyin’s Former Residence is located in She County, Huangshan City, and dates back to the Qing Dynasty.

In 2019, Wang Maoyin’s Former Residence was designated as part of the eighth batch of provincial-level cultural heritage sites by the People's Government of Anhui Province.

Wang Maoyin (1798–1865): A native of She County during the Qing Dynasty, he was an economist and achieved the degree of Jinshi in the Daoguang era. In 1851, he submitted the “Memorial on Paper Currency Regulations,” proposing the issuance of redeemable silver-backed banknotes to address the financial crisis — a culmination of his monetary thought. In 1853, he helped formulate a brief charter for issuing government banknotes. He soon assumed the post of Vice Minister of Revenue and concurrently managed the Coinage Bureau. He opposed the minting of large-denomination coins such as “ten-cash” and “hundred-cash” coins and the issuance of non-redeemable paper money, arguing that these would inevitably lead to inflation and rising prices — views that were not adopted.
