Centipede Ridge Terraces and the Former Site of the Brigade Headquarters

The Centipede Ridge Terraces and the Former Site of the Brigade Headquarters is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Anhui.

The Centipede Ridge Terraces and the Former Site of the Brigade Headquarters are located in Centipede Ridge Village, Huangtian Township, She County, Anhui Province.

Construction began in the winter of 1958 and consists of an auditorium and the office building of the village committee. In response to the call to “learn from Dazhai,” She County constructed nearly 1,000 acres of terraced tea gardens in the winter of 1958. Over the course of more than 20 years, the village’s 800-plus acres of terraced fields were developed into a contiguous collective area, forming the country’s only high-mountain stone-walled tea garden.

The site consists of an auditorium and the office building of the village committee. The auditorium has a “mountain”-shaped floor plan. It features three-tiered, two-courtyard civil-structural architecture with entrances on the east and west sides. The main structure of the auditorium has 16 pillars and four corridors, with a main hall that is 12.5 meters wide and 20 meters deep, featuring a sloped floor. Seating is divided into upper, middle, and lower levels, with the second floor serving as the office space for the village committee.

Protected area: A 5-meter buffer zone around the perimeter of the terraces. The area within the eaves of the former brigade headquarters.

Construction control zone: A 50-meter buffer beyond the protected area on all sides.
