Nanqiao Tower

Nanqiao Tower is a cultural relic protection unit of Anhui Province.

Nanqiao Tower is located in the county town of She County.

Originally built at the end of the Sui Dynasty, it served as the main gate tower of the outer city of Prince Wu's Palace, belonging to Wang Hua, a local leader of Shezhou (now Huizhou). Nanqiao Tower was an ancient timekeeping site, where the nightly drumbeats announcing the hours echoed in all directions from the tower. The Nanqiao Tower we see today was rebuilt in 1997 with funding from the National Cultural Heritage Administration. It largely retains the wooden architectural style of the Qing Dynasty, while the gate towers are designed in the style of the Song Dynasty.
