Zhenbai Li Archway

The Zhenbai Li Archway is a cultural relic protection unit of Anhui Province.

The Zhenbai Li Archway is a memorial arch erected in honor of Zheng Qianling, a notable figure from the Zheng family. Serving both as a ceremonial and residential gateway, it stands at the entrance to a small alley. This two-pillared, single-bay, three-story structure rises 8 meters high and spans 5.7 meters wide. Originally built in the late Yuan Dynasty, it is the earliest known archway in the Huizhou region, with fewer than ten surviving Yuan Dynasty archways nationwide. The central plaque bears inscriptions from the Ming Dynasty’s Hongzhi and Jiajing eras, while the three seal-script characters “Zhenbai Li” (贞白里), inscribed by the loyalist Yu Que in the late Yuan Dynasty, remain clearly visible. The stone archway is simple and elegant in design, featuring two pillars and a single bay, though the carvings on the lintel have been worn away.
