Xinzhou Stone Pagoda
The Xinzhou Stone Pagoda is a cultural relic protection unit of Anhui Province.
The Xinzhou Stone Pagoda was built during the Southern Song Dynasty. Originally named the Great Sage Bodhisattva Pagoda, it was funded by local villagers to pray for offspring. This octagonal, seven-story pavilion-style stone pagoda currently has five stories remaining, standing 4.6 meters tall, with each level varying in height. The base of the first story is 0.6 meters wide on each side. The second story features a shrine for incense burning, the third story has the Chinese character “佛” (Buddha) engraved on both sides and an inscription about its construction on the front. The fourth story has the name of the Tathagata (Buddha) inscribed on all eight sides, while the fifth story features a relief sculpture of the Tathagata Buddha within its arched niche. The current spire is in the shape of a gourd, modified during recent renovations.
