The former residence of Wang Maoyin is a cultural relic protection unit of Huangshan City.

The former residence of Wang Maoyin is located in Yicheng Village, Xiongcun Township, She County, dating back to the Qing Dynasty.

The former residence of Wang Maoyin is located in Yicheng Village, south of She County. Built in the mid-Qing period, the main house has three bays, with the central hall named "Dunren Hall" and its plaque inscribed by Li Hongzhang. The right side features three-story residential rooms, with the main gate located in the left corridor. Behind the central hall is a reverse hall, and both the front and rear have courtyard yards. The partition screens and doors/windows have been modified in the Beijing style, featuring larger lattice patterns inlaid with colored glass. Below the floorboards of the central hall, there is a bamboo-woven decorative mat with a swastika pattern. Wang Maoyin’s ancestral home was in Qizili Village, She County, but his residence was destroyed during the Taiping Rebellion. After retiring, he purchased this old house in Yicheng Village and settled there.

Wang Maoyin (1798–1865): A native of She County in the Qing Dynasty, economist, and successful candidate in the imperial examination during the Daoguang reign. In 1851, he submitted the “Memorial on the Banknote System,” proposing the issuance of redeemable silver banknotes to address the financial crisis, which encapsulated his monetary theories. In 1853, he helped draft a concise charter for the issuance of official banknotes. He later served as Vice Minister of the Ministry of Revenue, concurrently overseeing the Coinage Department. He opposed the minting of large denomination coins such as “Dangshi” (worth ten taels) and “Dangbai” (worth one hundred taels), as well as the issuance of non-redeemable paper currency, arguing that such measures would inevitably lead to inflation and rising prices—an opinion that was not adopted.
