The Ancient City of Huizhou lies at the heart of Huicheng Town, the county seat of She County in Huangshan City, southern Anhui Province. To the northeast, it borders Jixi County and Lin’an City of Zhejiang Province; to the southeast, it neighbors Chun’an County and Kaihua County of Zhejiang Province; to the southwest, it adjoins Tunxi District and Xiuning County; and to the northwest, it is adjacent to Huizhou District and Huangshan District. The Ancient City of Huizhou has long been the seat of the Huizhou prefecture, district, and government, so the county and prefectural governments were both located within the same city, forming a unique style of “city-within-a-city.” Built during the Ming Dynasty and renovated in the Qing Dynasty, the ancient city of She County features both an inner city and an outer wall, with four gates facing east, west, south, and north. Additionally, it preserves structures such as barbicans, city gates, ancient streets, and lanes. Since the Tang and Song dynasties, She County has built over 400 memorial archways.
