The two ponds are connected, resembling two copper coins, with “double money eyes” that are square inside and round outside. Year-round, water flows from each into winding streams leading to the end of the village along the Middle Street and South Street. A saying among the villagers goes: “The twin ponds are like money eyes, always shedding tears; round outside yet square inside — Lifang, the origin of the name, is thus explained.”
