She County Museum

The She County Museum is a local comprehensive museum located in the Xin'an Stele Garden in She County, Anhui Province. It was established in February 1958, merged into the county cultural center in 1961, and restored as an independent institution in April 1978. Currently, the museum has 11 staff members and includes departments for conservation and research, exhibitions, security, and the museum office. The newly established Wang Family Calligraphy and Painting Exhibition Hall and Metalware Exhibition Hall at the She County Museum officially opened to the public on May 18, 2008, becoming new highlights of the museum.

The museum currently houses 30,000 cultural relics and specimens, with ceramics, calligraphy and paintings, and inkstones as its specialties. Among them: there are 2,564 pieces of calligraphy and paintings, 722 pieces of ceramics, 19,175 ancient books and rare editions, 432 pieces of documents and archives, and 7,547 other types of collections including jade artifacts, steles, inkstones, seals, and bronze ware. The museum’s ceramic collection is renowned nationwide for two batches of excavated Yuan Dynasty ceramic treasures. The calligraphy and painting collection includes albums by Gou Daoren of the Xin’an School of Painting, landscape paintings by Huang Binhong, a central scroll by Lin Liang of the Ming Dynasty, a running script scroll by Zha Shibiao, and a plum blossom and white-headed bird scroll by Chen Jiayan. The inkstone collection features fine pieces such as the Tang-style She inkstone and the inkstone inscribed by Wang Tingne. Huizhou-style brick and wood carvings are also quite prominent. Among the museum’s cultural relics, 74 are classified as national first-grade relics, 193 as national second-grade relics, and 1,424 as national third-grade relics, as authenticated by national and provincial cultural relic authorities, with some relics yet to be appraised.

Permanent Exhibitions

The "Xin'an Stele Garden Stone Carving Exhibition" is divided into two sets of model calligraphy: "Yuqing Zhai" and "Qingjian Tang." "Yuqing Zhai" is divided into the main volume and the sequel, including works such as the Seventeen Posts, Chiru Post, Orchid Pavilion Preface, Yueyi Lun, Huangting Jing, Boyuan Post, Mid-Autumn Post, Jishi Post, Thousand Character Classic, Duck Head Pill Post, and Mingyuan Post. "Qingjian Tang" includes the main volumes of the Clarifying Hall, upper and lower parts. The "Huizhou Three Carvings Exhibition" mainly displays brick, wood, and stone carvings from the Ming and Qing dynasties, as well as ancient architectural components.

The "Historical Relics Exhibition" mainly displays the museum’s collections of calligraphy and paintings, ceramics, bronzes, and inkstones.

In September 2018, the She County Museum was approved as a National Second-Grade Museum by the Chinese Museums Association.
