Kuishan is located about one kilometer south of Maolin Town in Jing County. This mountain rises abruptly from the ground, standing alone as a solitary peak, round like an ancient bell, outstandingly graceful. At the high summit of Feixiong Pagoda stands a three-story hexagonal brick pagoda with upturned eaves and ridges, full of classical charm. The inner core of the pagoda is hollow, with a staircase leading all the way up to the third floor. The pagoda was funded and built in the 38th year of the Qianlong reign (1773) by Wu Yanzhan, a local imperial examination candidate, under the name “Feixiong.” After the founding of the People’s Republic of China, the government constructed a Revolutionary Martyrs’ Cemetery on Kuishan Mountain, turning it into a memorial park. It houses the remains of Xun Huazhou, a Red Army general, and also contains the epitaph for Xun Huazhou written by Comrade Chen Yi in May 1938 when he led troops eastward to resist the Japanese and passed through Maolin.
