Jing County Orchid Aroma Tea
Jing County Orchid Aroma Tea is a geographical indication certification trademark.
The authentic home of orchid tea is Liwukeng in Jing County, Anhui Province. Here, rolling peaks, gushing springs, misty clouds, and fertile soil abound; lush forests and clusters of wild orchids thrive. Every early spring, the orchids bloom, filling the air with their delicate fragrance. The tea plants, rooted alongside the orchids, absorb their fragrant essence.
Legend has it that orchid tea originated in the Tang Dynasty, initially introduced and cultivated by monks from Liwukeng Temple in Jing County. It is said that at the time, the emperor suffered from headaches. He happened to meet a monk who said, “There is a tea herb in the mountains; brewing and drinking it can cure your ailment.” The emperor then sent people to pick the leaves and brew the tea, and indeed, he recovered. Later, people competed to drink this tea, and it was listed as a “tribute tea” offered to the emperor. During the Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties, the reputation of orchid tea grew even greater, and it was even used as payment for officials’ salaries and soldiers’ wages. Later, due to the poverty of tea farmers and the neglect of tea gardens, orchid tea once declined.
Orchid tea is emerald green in color with visible silver tips, clear and bright in the cup, and boasts a mellow taste. Its aroma is pleasantly orchid-like, and its aftertaste is sweet and refreshing; it stands shoulder to shoulder with famous teas such as Huangshan Maofeng and Taiping Houkui.
