Beewise Cave at the Martyrdom Site of Xiang Ying and Zhou Zikun is a cultural relic protection unit of Anhui Province.

Beewise Cave at the Martyrdom Site of Xiang Ying and Zhou Zikun is located on Chikeng Mountain in Lianchang Village, Maolin Town, Jing County.

The round rocky peak at the top of the mountain is locally referred to as the "beehive barrel." At the base of the barrel, there is an opening to a natural cave, which is called "Beehive Cave." The cave entrance is 1.8 meters high, 2 meters wide, and 4 meters deep. Beewise Cave is steep, secluded, and difficult to climb. During the Southern Anhui Incident, Xiang Ying, the political commissar and deputy commander of the New Fourth Army, and Zhou Zikun, the deputy chief of staff, hid in this cave for over a month. Jiang Degui, a local villager from Chakengkou, delivered dry rations and pickles to them every other day, and hung red and white clothes at his doorstep to signal whether the Kuomintang had entered the mountains for “mopping-up” operations. Jiang’s house was burned down by the enemy three times, but he still built a thatched hut at the mouth of the valley to live in. On March 14, 1941, Xiang Ying and Zhou Zikun were tragically killed by the traitor Liu Houzong. Their remains were buried under the cliff not far from Beewise Cave and were later reinterred at Nanjing’s Rain Flower Terrace in 1952.

Protected Area: East to the mountaintop of Beewise Barrel on Chikeng Mountain, south to 50 meters south of the beehive barrel, west to 50 meters outside the cave entrance of Beewise Cave, and north to the outer side of the cliff head where the remains were buried.

Construction Control Zone: Above Weiting and 30 meters on both sides of the platform trail.

Lianchang Village: Lianchang Village is located southeast of Maolin Town, about 9 kilometers from the town. It borders Langqiao Town to the east, borders Jingde County to the south, neighbors Shanshui Village to the west, and connects to Gaohu Village to the north. The area covers 40 square kilometers, includes 14 villager groups, and has 367 households with a population of 1,296.
