The Five Generations Under One Roof scenic spot is located in the Big Tree King area, on the cliff below the Kaishan Old Temple. It is home to the world’s oldest ginkgo tree, known as the “Ancestor of Ginkgo.” At its base, 22 smaller offshoots have sprouted over generations, truly representing five generations under one roof.

Ginkgo is a relic plant from the Mesozoic era and is unique to China, with wild populations found only in the Tianmu Mountain Nature Reserve. Ginkgo is not only an excellent ornamental tree but also a highly valuable medicinal plant. Moreover, every part of it is useful, making it economically very significant.

Introduction

This “Ancestor of Ginkgo” is over 12,000 years old, a contemporary of the dinosaurs.

Additionally, about seven or eight meters north of the “World’s Ginkgo Ancestor,” growing between cracks in two large rocks, is the fragrant fruit tree — also a rare and endangered protected species and one of the three treasures of Tianmu Mountain.
