There are photo spots everywhere along the way！ The Tainan Canal cruise recreates a scenic journey along the waterfront

Since its opening in 1926, the Tainan Canal has inherited the commercial transport function of Taiwan’s historic Fucheng Canal for nearly two hundred years, becoming an important channel for trade and passenger transport in the Tainan area, while also carrying the development of Tainan city and even Taiwanese history. Now, the Tainan Canal water cruise has begun, allowing everyone to take in the beautiful waterfront scenery of Tainan.

The canal cruise allows visitors to admire sights such as the Anping Recreation Pier, Fisherman’s Wharf, Old Anping Customs, bridges along the route, the Canal Diamond Park, mangroves, Anping Commercial Port, Lin Mo Niang Park, and the De Yang warship from the boat. In addition, the Tainan City Government is actively planning improvements to the canal’s water quality, shoreline park facilities, public art, and lighting environments, aiming to further enhance the tourist experience and strive to make the canal a top-tier sightseeing brand.

In terms of the scenery along the route, among the 12 bridges on the Tainan Canal, the Lin’an Bridge and the New South Bridge (also known as the Black Bridge) are the lowest in height. To overcome the issue of these low-spanning bridge structures, specially designed flat-bottomed boats that can pass under the bridges at their lowest clearance have been created, and tidal conditions are monitored daily to time passages before high tide. When the tide is higher, passengers may have to bend down to pass under the bridges, adding a fun and unique experience. Furthermore, foundational environmental lighting elements such as the night sensory zone at the Old Anping Customs, the sunset-themed lighting at the Jinchengli Activity Center building, sailboat ambiance lighting at the recreation pier, and linear railing lights along the riverbank are expected to be completed next year, greatly enhancing the visual enjoyment of the cruise.

Travelers depart from the Yiyi Bridge Fisherman’s Wharf, passing through 12 bridges including Yiyi Bridge and Jinhua Bridge. The entire 10-kilometer route takes about one hour. Not only can you enjoy views of Tainan from the canal perspective and experience the special thrill of crouching to pass just beneath the bridges, but you’ll also spot fish leaping out of the water along the way—making the trip full of surprises and photo opportunities at every landmark！
