The Former Residence of Tripp is located at No. 19 Zhanjiang Road, Hexi District. It is a two-story American-style villa with a basement that Mr. Tripp purchased in 1927. This garden-style villa was built in 1925 by Dr. Cai Le’er, an American doctor who practiced medicine in Tianjin. The property covers an area of 748 square meters, with a construction area of 295 square meters. The doors, windows, floors, and other woodwork used in the building are all made of American pine, and were prefabricated in the United States before being shipped here. In front of the basement are the boiler room and stairwell. On the first floor, the southwest corner room serves as the entrance hall, while the northeast corner room is the dining room. The second floor has five bedrooms, as well as one bathroom and a storage room. The front yard is lush with flowers and trees, and the fence is semi-transparent, composed of brick piers and white wooden pickets. Pots of flowers and wind chimes hang on the wall, and it was known at the time as “Tripp’s Garden.” In 1999, the residence underwent renovation. Today, descendants of the Tripp family still live here.

Percy B. Tripp (1881–1947), courtesy name Yangxi, whose English name was Percy B. Tripp, was a modern-era educator in Tianjin who had a deep love for China and its culture, and devoted over 40 years to developing education in the city.

He was born on December 5, 1881, in Falls Church, Virginia, USA. In the autumn of 1902, he entered Columbia University to study literature and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree.
