Zhenyuan Fort

Zhenyuan Fort is a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

Zhenyuan Fort is located on the southern side of Lishan Mountain at the mouth where the Xiaojiao River meets the sea, in Qijiashan Subdistrict, Beilun District, Ningbo City. It was built in the sixth year of the Guangxu reign during the Qing Dynasty (1880). The fort consists of three earthen platforms, with a concave rectangular layout, measuring 52.6 meters in length, 9 meters in width, and 4.8 meters in height. It originally had five gun embrasures and eleven barracks rooms.

In the tenth year of the Guangxu reign (1884), one 80-pound Wah Wah breech-loading cannon, two 46-pound Wah Wah breech-loading cannons, and two British-made muzzle-loading cannons were installed. Later, two 12 cm Krupp breech-loading cannons and one 17 cm Krupp breech-loading cannon were added. In 1936, one 21 cm Krupp breech-loading cannon was moved here from Pingyuan Fort. In 2007, the base of the fort was relocated to the former site of Weidou Primary School for preservation.

Currently, the fort is severely damaged, with most of its walls collapsed. However, two three-earth barracks rooms on the northwest side remain relatively intact. In November 1996, as part of the Zhenhai Port Coastal Defense Ruins, it was designated by the State Council as a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.
