Jingyuan Fort

Jingyuan Fort: Located at Shawantou on the northeastern foothills of Golden Rooster Mountain in Weidou Community, Qijia Mountain Subdistrict, Beilun District. Facing south and overlooking the north, it covers an area of 447.8 square meters. Originally equipped with five gun embrasures and five barracks. Constructed from rammed earth (lime, clay, and sand mixture), the structure has a concave floor plan and a trapezoidal façade. It is 45 meters long, 9 meters wide, and 4.4 meters high. The upper thickness of the walls is 1.06 meters, and the lower thickness is 1.75 meters. The gun embrasures are 2.4 meters wide and 2 meters high. The partition walls between the barracks and individual gun chambers have been destroyed. In 1986, an 1842 British Armstrong 80-pound muzzle-loading cannon was unearthed (currently housed in the Beilun Museum), along with a stone lintel inscription from the Jingyuan Fort (now preserved in Jiaoshan Park within the Development Zone). According to historical records, the fort was built in the sixth year of the Guangxu reign during the Qing Dynasty (1880). By the tenth year of Guangxu (1884), it was equipped with four Armstrong 80-pound muzzle-loading cannons and one Wah Wah breech-loading cannon.
