Shao Keping Family Art Exhibition Hall

The Shao Keping Family Art Exhibition Hall is located at No. 21 Jiujia Lane, Beilun District. It was reconstructed from the former CPPCC Painting and Calligraphy Academy. The exhibition hall consists of upper and lower galleries along with auxiliary facilities and has been open to the public free of charge since October 2010.

The exhibition hall specially displays over twenty Chinese paintings, more than twenty original prints, more than ten New Year paintings and propaganda posters, as well as other manuscripts and related documentary materials by Mr. Shao Keping, a renowned printmaker from Beilun. There is also a dedicated room showcasing important works by his two sons—Shao Liyang, a famous printmaker, and Shao Jianyang, a renowned graphic designer. Shao Keping’s influence on the next generation has created this artistic family. This exhibition hall promotes and celebrates such a cultural phenomenon through the display of artworks by the Shao Keping family.

Shao Keping was born in 1916 in Xiaogang, Beilun, Ningbo. He was a member of the China Artists Association, a national first-class artist, and a member of the Communist Party of China. He served as a council member of the China Printmakers Association and the Shanghai Artists Association, a member of the Print Art Committee, and vice president of the Shanghai Printmakers Association. The China Artists Association and the China Printmakers Association awarded him the “Contribution Award for New Woodcut Prints.”

Shao Keping, born in 1916, also known as Gongxuan, was from Zhenhai, Zhejiang. He was a contemporary painter and is currently a member of the China Artists Association, a council member of the China Printmakers Association, a council member of the Shanghai Artists Association, a member of the Print Art Committee, and vice president of the Shanghai Printmakers Association.

He started learning painting from childhood and studied at the Shanghai White Goose Painting School (founded by Chen Qiucao) in his early years. During the Anti-Japanese War, he worked as an art editor for the Zhejiang-based Minzu Daily. He began creating woodcut prints in 1940. Qijia Mountain Subdistrict: Qijia Mountain Subdistrict is located in the northwest corner of Beilun District, Ningbo City, and is named after the national hero Qi Jiguang who fought against Japanese pirates here. The area covers a land area of 18.6 square kilometers, with a permanent population of 13,000 and nearly 40,000 registered migrant residents. It was approved for establishment by the Ningbo Municipal People's Government in November 2006 and officially inaugurated on March 16, 2007.
