Zhishui Beach Scenic Area features natural ecology and wellness culture as its landscape themes. Key attractions include the ruins of Ruiyan Temple, Forest Park, and Lingzhi Lake. The area is especially noted for its natural ecology and wellness culture, with highlights such as the ruins of Ruiyan Temple, Forest Park, and Lingzhi Lake. Ruiyan Temple was originally established during the Huichang period (841–846) of the Tang Dynasty. It experienced several periods of rise and decline, but gained great fame in the 30th year of the Guangxu reign (1904) during the Qing Dynasty when Empress Dowager Cixi bestowed a set of Buddhist scriptures upon it. Along with Ayuwang Temple and Tiantong Temple, it became known as one of the "Buddhist Realms of the Southeast." The "Ten Scenes of Ruiyan," including Zhishui Bridge, Twelve Peaks, and Lingzhi Mountain, have been frequented by numerous historical and cultural figures, whose legacies remain to this day. The Forest Park boasts a rare and typical subtropical natural ecological community, with up to 738 plant species, including relict species like ginkgo, metasequoia, and cephalotaxus, as well as scenic trees such as golden larch, camphor, and sweet gum. The area is also home to a wide variety of animals, including birds, mammals, and reptiles. Notably, it hosts the Zhennan Spiny Crocodile Newt, a national protected animal often dubbed the "million-year-old mini dinosaur." This species has an evolutionary history of at least 15 million years and holds significant value for the study of biodiversity and genetic variation. The scenic area has established a dedicated nature reserve for the Zhennan Spiny Crocodile Newt.
