Originally named Binxi Road, Xu Xiake Boulevard was renamed in honor of Xu Xiake, the world-renowned Chinese traveler and geographer. It is a cultural garden boulevard that integrates leisure, entertainment, commerce, and more.

Xu Xiake (January 5, 1587 – March 8, 1641), courtesy name Hongzu, style name Zhenzhi, also known as Xiake, was a Han Chinese from Jiangyin in the Nan Zhili region during the Ming Dynasty. Influenced by his father in his youth, Xu Xiake developed a love for reading books on history, geography, exploration, and travel. These works inspired his deep appreciation for China’s magnificent landscapes and fueled his ambition to explore its famous mountains and great rivers. The "Travel Diaries of Xu Xiake" document various scenic spots, historical sites, and local customs across the country. May 19th, the starting date of Xu Xiake's travels as recorded in the diaries, has been designated as China Tourism Day.
