Nanxi Hot Spring Tourist Resort is a provincial-level tourist resort approved by the Zhejiang Provincial Government. Centered around the Nanxi Hot Spring in Ninghai County, southeastern Ningbo, it is about 60 kilometers from Ninghai City. Boasting vast forest resources, the area encompasses surrounding scenic spots such as Wolong Valley, Immortal Valley, Warbler Valley, and Splendid Valley, offering an extremely tranquil environment. The abundant geothermal resources have made this place widely renowned. The spring water originates from 158 meters underground, maintaining a constant temperature of 49.5°C all year round. The water is rich in hydrogen and contains over 20 types of minerals, including lithium and fluorine. Regular bathing in this hot spring can nourish the skin, relieve fatigue, and is particularly effective in treating cardiovascular diseases, nervous system disorders, arteriosclerosis, hypertension, endocrine issues, rheumatoid arthritis, and skin conditions. The resort area includes a hot spring villa and all necessary supporting facilities.

Ninghai is 70 kilometers from Ningbo. To the south, it is 70 kilometers from Taizhou. Since ancient times, it has been the essential route from Ningbo to Taizhou. Nowadays, both the provincial highway and the coastal expressway pass through Ninghai.

“Tiantong and Yuwang, the Eastern Great Port; Jiang’s Mother’s Tomb Path, and a hot spring bath.” These two rhyming lines highlight that “a hot spring bath” is an indispensable part of travel in Ningbo. Ninghai, formerly known as “Goucheng,” is located along the eastern coast of Zhejiang. It borders Fenghua, Xiangshan, Sanmen, Tiantai, and Xinchang counties, covering an area of 1,879 square kilometers, including 244.4 square kilometers of sea area. Established as a county in the first year of the Taikang era during the Western Jin Dynasty (280 AD), it was abolished and merged into Linhai County in the ninth year of the Kaihuang era of the Sui Dynasty (589 AD). It was re-established in the fourth year of the Wude era of the Tang Dynasty (621 AD), with its seat moved to Haiyou (now part of Sanmen County). In the seventh year of Wude (624 AD), it was again merged into Zhang’an County. After many changes throughout successive dynasties, it was finally placed under the jurisdiction of Ningbo in July 1983. Historically, Ninghai was home to many notable scholars and left behind numerous cultural heritage sites, which you might catch a glimpse of during your trip to Nanxi.
