Site of the Meihua Village Meeting

The Site of the Meihua Village Meeting is a cultural relic protection unit of Ninghai County and a classic red tourism destination.

The Site of the Meihua Village Meeting is in Bailingen Village, Chalu. Bailingen is located south of the main road from Ninghai County to Qiantong, Chalu, and Sangzhou. The village is situated on an alluvial plain 1.2 kilometers east of Pinqian Road, on the eastern side of Baixi, at the foot of the front mountain ridge. The ridge is covered with white sand, hence the name “Bailingen.”

The Site of the Meihua Village Meeting is located at the southern end of the village, with its backyard adjacent to the foot of Liuqin Ridge. The ridge is densely vegetated, with large areas of pine forest. Behind Liuqin Ridge are continuous mountain ranges, which provided favorable conditions for concealment and retreat. Many plum trees were planted around the site’s buildings and throughout the village.

In the spring of 1947, the East Zhejiang Provisional Working Committee held an expanded meeting of the Taizhou Working Committee here. As plum blossoms were in full bloom at the time, the meeting came to be known as the “Meihua Village Meeting.” This meeting addressed important issues such as how to carry out guerrilla warfare and establish revolutionary bases in the Taizhou region. It marked a turning point where the Taizhou Party organizations shifted from covert struggle to armed resistance. After the meeting, the Nantian Uprising was successfully led. Local armed forces in Ninghai and the Shanyang Revolutionary Base were subsequently established, actively supporting the victory of the Liberation War.

In December 1982, it was designated as a county-level cultural relic protection unit.
