Sanyizhuang Mosque

Sanyizhuang Mosque is a cultural tourism attraction.

Sanyizhuang Mosque is located on the north side of People's Park, at No. 89 Jiujing Road. In the early 20th century, the number of Hui people settling in the areas of Sanyizhuang, Xiawafang, and Qiande Zhuang increased year by year. In 1927, Muslim community members raised funds to build a mosque at the southern end of Sanyizhuang, naming it “Sanyizhuang Mosque.”

In 1932, Grand Imam Wang Jingzhai raised funds to renovate the mosque again, constructing a grand main prayer hall on the west side of the mosque, flanked and faced by auxiliary single-story buildings. It became the earliest newly established Muslim mosque in Tianjin. It was closed between 1958–[year redacted]. In 1987, the Sanyizhuang Mosque Civil Management Committee reclaimed the original site of the mosque. On July 15 of the same year, the Hexi District Government established a temporary leading group for mosque restoration and began renovating Sanyizhuang Mosque. Drawing inspiration from the appearance of Tianmu Village Food Street and the dome style of Beijing Islamic Institute, the design and reconstruction were carried out. The entire structure has a rectangular layout and is divided into two levels, with a basement under the main prayer hall. The main entrance faces east, leading directly to the prayer hall. The wall in front of the entrance is adorned with yellow-dominated, ochre-green tiled decorations. Corridors connect the auxiliary rooms to the main prayer hall. The whole building is solemn, dignified, and beautiful, featuring an Arabic architectural style. The building covers an area of 900 square meters, with the prayer hall spanning 300 square meters, capable of accommodating over 200 worshippers.

In April 1988, Sanyizhuang Mosque was renamed Hexi Mosque and officially opened to the public, resuming Islamic religious activities. Hexi Mosque is a key open site in Tianjin and has hosted more than 600 visitors from Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, and abroad. On major Islamic festivals, leaders from Hexi District join Muslims at the mosque to celebrate together.
