Yuelong Mountain

Yuelong Mountain is located in the southeast corner of Ninghai County’s urban area, with an elevation of 80 meters. Winding like a reclining dragon, it was formerly known as Wolong Mountain and also called Yingxia Mountain. During the Ming Dynasty, the county magistrate Huang Chun renamed it to its current name. Before liberation, to the west stood the study site of Mr. Zhengbo and the Qiankun Zhengqi Archway. Nearby is the Qingyun Taoist Temple (also known as Longshan Taoist Monastery), a three-story building built along the mountainside. At the top is the Sea-Viewing Pavilion, where visitors can enjoy panoramic views of both the stream and mountain scenery. It connects further back to the “Lüzu Hall,” where a couplet composed by Linhai’s Ge Yongshang reads: “Incense smoke returns to solemnity; immortal traces endure long. One imagines the moon sinking over the vast sea, half drunk from riding a dragon leaping across; today the sound of reading is silent, loyal souls never return. Facing the slanting sunlight on the battlements, the lone city still resents the swallows’ return.” Below the southwest mountain spur lies Longyin Pool, where steep cliffs and hanging rocks often attract anglers perched precariously on the walls. After liberation, many of the ancient buildings were demolished and repurposed as other facilities.
