Smart Mountain Scenic Area is another newly opened attraction in the Wushan Grottoes—the only coastal cave cluster in Ninghai—following the success of Buzhou Divine Mountain. Unlike the awe-inspiring and magnificent Buzhou Divine Mountain, which showcases the perfect harmony between ancient quarrying wonders and nature, Smart Mountain Scenic Area uses unique creativity to build an intelligence-themed amusement park. It employs a variety of expressive methods such as sculpture, photography, physical objects, and scene setups to highlight the perfect combination of wisdom and nature.

The Wushan Grottoes boast abundant resources of ancient quarrying caves. Through professional observation and artistic imagination, slightly damaged rocks are carefully carved and integrated with the surrounding rock formations to form large-scale stone sculptures. This millennia-long collaboration between modern artists and ancient craftsmen serves as a win-win model for both historical preservation and artistic development. Meanwhile, the themes of the carvings align with or complement the scenic area’s intelligence theme. This masterstroke of adding the finishing touch is akin to turning stones into gold and waste into treasure.

According to surviving inscriptions and historical records, the scenic beauty of the Smart Mountain Temple has existed since before the Western Han Dynasty. Since ancient times, the splendid scenery of Congshan was hailed as the foremost of the “Eight Scenic Spots of Pinggan.” Historical accounts state that during the Western Han Dynasty, King Qing of Pinggan, Liu Yan—whose courtesy name was Pinggan—was appointed by Emperor Wu of Han to govern Guangping, which was subsequently renamed Pinggan State. King Qing, well-versed in classics and history, had a deep love for literature. He established many schools, promoted education, enjoyed visiting scenic sites, and ranked eight notable attractions within Guangping State as the “Eight Scenic Spots of Pinggan.” Among them, Smart Mountain was listed as the first, known as “Congshan Embracing Elegance.” This occurred between the second year of Emperor Wu’s Zhenghe era (91 BC) and the second year of Emperor Xuan’s Wufeng era (56 BC), demonstrating that the scenic splendor of Smart Mountain and the Zhao Huiwang Shrine had already gained fame in the early Western Han Dynasty.
