Global Ancient Ships Museum

The Global Ancient Ships Museum is located in Xiashan Village, Qiangjiao Town, at the tail end of Xiangshan Port in Ninghai, Zhejiang. Inside the museum, there are over 40 ancient ship models. The smaller ones are just over 1 meter long, while the larger ones are nearly 3 meters, all scaled-down replicas of real vessels, including their internal structures. Though these ships of varying sizes may seem ordinary, they document the fishing history of coastal fishermen in eastern China spanning thousands of years. To prevent the memory of these vessels from fading, the museum displays over 40 models, including a 5,000-year-old dugout canoe, Zheng He’s treasure ships from the Ming Dynasty, Qing Dynasty fast boats, as well as fishing and shipping vessels commonly used in the Bohai Sea, Yellow Sea, and southeastern coastal areas. There are also more than 40 exhibition panels on the history of ancient ship development, systematically and vividly showcasing the evolution of China’s shipbuilding technology, and truthfully reflecting the significant role that modern shipbuilding techniques have played in maritime transport, ocean development, and deep-sea fishing in recent times.
