Former Residence of Zhu Qiqian

The former residence of Zhu Qiqian is a protected cultural heritage site of Tianjin.

The former residence of Zhu Qiqian is located at No. 164 Machang Road, Hexi District. After retiring to Tianjin, due to his wife's illness requiring a quiet environment for recovery, he purchased a plot of land opposite Nijiayuan Garden (the private garden of warlord Ni Sichong, now the Tianjin Children's Hospital) in 1922 and built a courtyard-style villa. It is a three-story Western-style building with quite unique architecture. The main structure is a two-story Western house with a basement below, surrounded by corridors on all floors. The design is elegant, and the courtyard is spacious, featuring rockeries and pavilions, named "Huoyuan" (the Garden of the Inchworm).

Zhu Qiqian (1872–1964), courtesy name Guixin, also known in his later years as Huogong, was referred to as Elder Gui. He was originally from Kaizhou, Guizhou (now Kaiyang), born in 1872 in Xinyang, Henan, and passed away in Beijing on February 26, 1964, at the age of 92, having lived nearly a full century. His life spanned five major historical periods: the late Qing Dynasty, the Beiyang Government, the Republic of China, the Japanese puppet regime, and New China.
