Built in 1902, it was a villa constructed for British businessman Newton Booth. Newton Booth was a British merchant who came to China at the time to help establish China's earliest railway company — the Tianjin-Tanggu Railway Company — serving as the company’s chief financial officer. Before the liberation, historical figures such as Sun Yat-sen, Chiang Kai-shek, Zhang Xueliang, Li Zongren, and Zhan Tianyou lived or rested here. After the liberation, leaders including Mao Zedong, Zhou Enlai, and Liu Shaoqi stayed here. It is now managed and used by the No. 51 Garden Hotel. The building covers a construction area of 2,500 square meters and is a two-story brick-and-wood structure in the British architectural style.
