The Xikou Tengtou Ecological Tourism Area is a national AAAAA-level tourist attraction.

The Tengtou Ecological Tourism Area is situated in the northern part of Fenghua City, 27 kilometers from downtown Ningbo, 15 kilometers from Yueshi Airport, and 12 kilometers from the national key scenic spot Xikou. The total area of the tourism zone is 1 square kilometer.

Since 1998, Tengtou Village has fully leveraged its advantages as a United Nations "Global 500 for Environmental Protection" and one of the first National Civilized Villages, while maximizing the functions of its status as a Provincial Patriotic Education Base, National Environmental Education Base, National Youth Science and Technology Education Base, and National Agricultural Comprehensive Development Demonstration Zone. Centered around the theme of enabling visitors to "experience and enjoy nature, understand and study nature, and protect and develop nature," the area has vigorously developed eco-tourism and agricultural sightseeing. It has now established over 20 ecological tourism attractions along the route once visited by former General Secretary & UN Under-Secretary-General Elizabeth Dowdeswell, including a high-tech ecological agriculture sightseeing demonstration zone, the "Nation's First Citrus Viewing Forest," General's Forest, Jiangnan Style Garden, and Bonsai Garden. Additionally, tourism activities such as animal performances, irrigation cart rides, outdoor barbecues, and rural cultural performances have been introduced.

1. Plant Ecotourism. With guidance from the Provincial Academy of Agricultural Sciences, the tourism area has created the "Nation's First Citrus Viewing Forest," stretching over 1,000 meters. Over 130 varieties of citrus, grafted and cultivated from more than ten countries and regions, have been planted here, with both Chinese and Latin labels indicating their origin, family, variety, and use. The Tengtou Premium Bonsai Garden houses over 10,000 potted plants of more than 3,000 varieties, meticulously cared for by gardeners. The garden combines the strengths of various styles, resulting in naturally beautiful, authentic works. Each bonsai—whether rustic, elegant, majestic, or delicate—delights visitors with its vibrant, wild, and lively charm. The tourism area also offers activities such as learning to make bonsai and naming them, based on different styles and schools, providing engaging and enriching experiences.

2. Rural Scenery Tourism. The 11,000-square-kilometer tourism area is divided into several zones, including a pear base, flower and seedling viewing area, and Jiangnan Style Garden. Each section is separated by covered walkways outfitted with sturdy wooden benches. Vines climb along the corridors, which are lined with over ten types of fruits and vegetables like pumpkin, bottle gourd, and chayote, as well as greenery such as tea trees and podocarpus. This creates a lush, fruitful rest area that offers visitors a place to relax, reflect, and enjoy the scenery, while also becoming a highlight of the tourism zone. Seasonal activities like grape, pear, and strawberry picking are also offered, giving visitors the unique joy of agricultural sightseeing.

3. Eco-environmental Tourism. As a "Global 500 for Environmental Protection" site and a National Environmental Education Base, the tourism area boasts abundant eco-tourism resources. It makes full use of two water systems—the inner and outer ring rivers. Fish cages are set up under grape trellises on the inner ring river, where mandarin fish are raised, and river clams thrive at the bottom. Bird droppings feed the fish, and fish waste nourishes the clams, creating a multi-layered, space-efficient planting model that enables material recycling. The outer ring river features a scenic bridge and is home to wild ducks, swans, and mandarin ducks. Within Tengtou Park, lawns, pavilions, arch bridges, stone benches, and flower stands create winding paths and enchanting scenery.

4. Historical and Cultural Tourism. Reflecting local rural realities, the tourism area has built a museum-like "Farming Garden" that showcases the historical and cultural characteristics of China’s southeastern coastal region. This quaint bamboo structure displays over 300 farming and daily-life tools from the late primitive society over 7,000 years ago to modern times, serving as a historical testament to agricultural development in the region. It highlights the wisdom and hard work of Chinese laborers and underscores the importance of science and education in boosting agriculture and national development.

5. Ethnic Culture Tourism. Dragon and lion dances, as well as Chinese martial arts, are sports activities that combine performance with practicality and embody distinctive elements of Chinese ethnic culture. To enrich the visitor experience, we offer performances of Chinese martial arts and dragon-lion dances at various times. Through demonstrations of boxing, swordplay, staff techniques, and the exciting lion dance competition, visitors can experience the wonders of Chinese martial arts and the vibrant atmosphere of these traditional performances.

6. Rural Custom Tourism. In the Jiangnan Style Garden, visitors can take part in hands-on activities such as stepping on water wheels, operating rice pestles, drifting on bamboo rafts, spinning and weaving, and hulling and milling rice. The tourism area also presents animal competitions like bullfighting, pig racing, sheep butting, and chicken duels, allowing guests to enjoy the unique flavors of rural life.

Tengtou is Ningbo’s first ecological tourism demonstration zone and one of the country’s first batch of AAAA-level tourist attractions. As a village-run tourism initiative, Tengtou stands out nationwide for its rich content and distinctive local characteristics. Focusing on eco-agriculture, rural scenery, and countryside living, the area currently features 19 attractions for visitors to explore.
