Huangxian Maritime Great Wall Forest Park

The Huangxian Maritime Great Wall Forest Park scenic area is located on the southeastern coast of Fenghua, Ningbo, 35 kilometers from downtown Fenghua, 40 kilometers from downtown Ningbo, and 45 kilometers from Ningbo Airport. The planned Xiangshan Port Bridge and Coastal Central Line will pass in front of Huangxian Village. The scenic area is surrounded by mountains on three sides and faces the sea on one side, with a forest area of over 10,200 acres and a forest coverage rate of more than 90%. It is a provincial-level pristine ecological forest park integrating mountain scenery, coastal charm, and cultural heritage, as well as a national-level agricultural tourism demonstration site and Ningbo’s first dark sky reserve.

Once completed, the Xiangshan Port Bridge will transform the previously formidable waterway into an accessible route. The distance from Dancheng, the seat of Xiangshan County, to Ningbo will be shortened from the current 120 kilometers to 47 kilometers, reducing travel time from two hours to just 35 minutes. The completion of the bridge will place Xiangshan within Ningbo’s half-hour economic circle and Hangzhou’s two-hour economic circle. Considering the combined effect of the Hangzhou Bay Cross-Sea Bridge, Xiangshan will also enter Shanghai’s three-hour economic circle.

Huangxian Village is located in the southeastern coastal region of Fenghua City, 6 kilometers southwest of Qiucun Town. With green mountains standing to the east, west, and north, the Dama’ao Stream in the northwest and the Lingxi Stream in the northeast converge here to form the Huangxian Stream, which flows 2 kilometers south into Xiangshan Port. The village road runs west through Hebosuo Village to connect with the Fenghua–Tongzhao Line, and northeast through Yingjiapeng Village and Yang Village to connect with the Fenghua–Hutoudu Line, approximately 50 kilometers from downtown Fenghua.

While developing industrial and agricultural production, great emphasis has been placed on protecting the ecological environment and purifying the resources essential for human survival. The village invested 400,000 yuan to build a large-scale biogas project, utilizing manure from pig and chicken farms as well as straw from farmland to produce biogas for affordable use by all villagers. The establishment of the biogas project, along with scientific and modernized pig and chicken farming, not only changed the generations-old habits of household livestock rearing and straw burning, bringing convenience to residents, but also fundamentally improved the once dirty, disordered, and foul-smelling sanitary conditions of the village. Over the years, the village has planted over 1,300 evergreen trees such as metasequoia and camphor trees in a planned manner around the village, along rivers, roadsides, and near homes, built flower stands on main pathways, and planted various flowers. More than 7,600 metasequoia trees have been planted along farm roads and field ridges, and apple and grape vines have been cultivated around a 12-acre fish pond. As a result, the green coverage area exceeds 20%. Upon entering Huangxian Village, visitors are greeted with a refreshing atmosphere, clean air, and lush greenery.

Huangxian Maritime Great Wall Forest Park features lush ancient trees, murmuring streams, the grand Shangshan Waterfall, the majestic Anti-Wokou Great Wall, and the clear, picturesque Mingzhu Lake, creating a three-dimensional landscape painting. Scenic spots such as the Lin Bu Square, Dongci Temple, Dongyuan Pagoda, Qinghe Gate, Xiao Sun Pavilion, Panlong Temple, Feiyun Altar, and the Maritime Great Wall are nestled among the greenery, showcasing traditional Chinese cultural elements such as the wisdom culture of the Qin and Han dynasties represented by the “Four Elders of Shangshan” including Xia Huanggong; the reclusive scholar culture of the Song dynasty represented by Lin Hejing, who took plum blossoms as his wife and cranes as his children; and the anti-invasion war culture of the Ming dynasty represented by Qi Jiguang’s resistance against Wokou pirates. Since its opening in July 2009, it has received high praise from domestic and international tourists and is one of the most captivating new highlights among eastern Zhejiang’s emerging tourist destinations.
