Martyr Wang Kun's Tomb

Martyr Wang Kun's Tomb is a cultural heritage protection unit of Fenghua District and a classic red tourism attraction.

Martyr Wang Kun's Tomb is located on Baixiang Mountain upstream of the Hengshan Reservoir in Fenghua City. In June 1982, it was designated as one of the first municipal-level cultural heritage protection units by the Fenghua Municipal People's Government.

Wang Kun (1905–1927), also known as Wang Zongbao, was from Wufen Di, Wangga'ao, Dayan Town, Fenghua City. He joined the Communist Party of China during the May Fourth Movement in 1925. In Ningbo, he worked closely with the public to promote revolution, mobilized workers to organize labor unions, and once served as the chairman of the Post and Telecommunications Union. In February 1927, when the Ningbo General Labor Union was established, he was elected as its president. He issued union regulations to protect workers’ rights and took action against unlawful capitalists. In March of the same year, he was detained and imprisoned by Wang Jun of the Nationalist Party’s Ning-Tai-Wen Command. Comrade Wang Kun remained steadfast in prison, never yielding to threats, temptations, torture, or beatings by the enemy. He was tragically executed in June at the young age of 23.

Martyr Wang Kun's Tomb is situated on the elephant trunk-like protrusion of Baixiang Mountain, approximately one li from Changzhao Village in Dayan Town. It is an earthen mound tomb with a diameter of 3.6 meters and a height of 2.45 meters. The tombstone bears the inscription “Tomb of Martyr Wang Kun” in six large characters. On either side of the tombstone are stone chairs and benches. The worship platform is 3.36 meters deep and 6.85 meters wide, fan-shaped, paved with gravel and covered with cement.

The tomb faces slightly south of east, surrounded by mountains on three sides, with graves nearby. Nine meters in front lies a tea plantation, and below it flows the county stream, offering beautiful scenery.

Wang Kun (1905–1927), childhood name Zongbao, also known as Jingkui, was originally from Waigao'ao Village, Lianshan Township, Fenghua (now part of Dayan Town). He was born on Zhongjie Street, Jiangdong, Yin County (now part of Jiangdong District). In 1921, he attended Huaying School, where he participated in a mass anti-imperialist movement. After graduation, he worked as a mail sorter at the Ningbo Post and Telegraph Bureau. During the May Thirtieth Movement in 1925, he mobilized post and telecommunications workers to join the struggle. In the autumn of that year, he joined the Communist Youth League and became a member of the Communist Party of China in the winter. The following autumn, he organized labor unions for postal, telecommunication, textile factory, and Yong-Cao Railway workers, serving as the president of the Ningbo General Labor Union and helping establish the Ningbo Workers' Militia.
