Golden Bell Tower
The Golden Bell Tower is a cultural relic protection unit of Fenghua District.
The Golden Bell Tower, located atop Golden Bell Mountain in Nijiaqi Village, Yuelin Subdistrict, Fenghua City, was designated as a municipal-level cultural relic protection site under the third batch by the Fenghua Municipal People's Government in February 1987.
The Golden Bell Tower, whose date of construction is unknown, was renovated during the Daoguang reign of the Qing Dynasty. This multi-story brick-and-stone pagoda has an octagonal, seven-tiered form and stands 22 meters high. The first tier is built with strip stones, while the six tiers above are constructed of brick. Each level has a cornice formed by corbelled dentils, and every facade is adorned with carved niches. On the southern niche of the fourth tier sits a Buddha statue, depicted with hands clasped in meditation. The pagoda is hollow inside and features an unusually tall finial that is uniquely designed. Above the finial base is a square niche, also surrounded by niches on all four sides. Above the niche rests a bell, with a pestle on top — possibly once adorned with an ornament resembling a jewel, though now damaged. Below the tower, the Fenghua River flows north from a bridge, turns eastward at Changting, then bends back north near the base of Golden Bell Mountain. Meanwhile, the eastern extension of the Tongshan Mountain Range curves south here before turning east again. The interplay between the river and surrounding green hills creates a misty, ethereal atmosphere. The pagoda rises above this landscape like a vision floating above floral hues and rosy mists, forming a spectacular sight and a renowned scenic spot in the northeastern part of the city.
