Fenghua City Historical Relics Exhibition Hall

The Historical Relics Exhibition Hall is located on the first floor of the Cultural Relics Protection Office at No. 56 Tiyuchang Road, Fenghua City. It consists of an east hall and a west hall, covering a total area of over 300 square meters. The exhibition displays 170 various cultural relics, along with supporting antique furniture from ancient studies, halls, and bedrooms. The content can be summarized into five major categories:

1. Mingshanhou Primitive Culture – This section showcases artifacts unearthed from the Neolithic site at Mingshanhou Village, Jiangkou Town, our city. These include primitive human skulls, stone axes, stone adzes, stone sickles, stone plows, stone knives, spinning whorls, jade earrings, jade huangs, and various pottery household items. These items collectively reflect the agricultural and handicraft tools as well as daily-life artifacts from over 5,600 years ago, offering visitors a vivid glimpse into prehistoric civilization.

2. Ancient Tombs – Our city’s Baodu was already the seat of the ancient Yin County during the Qin Dynasty. The Nannao Mountain area in southern Baodu is a protected cultural relics site of ancient tombs in our city. Over the years, a large number of tomb artifacts from the Western Han to the Western Jin Dynasties have been excavated here, which have had considerable impact. To help the public better understand the structure and funeral customs of ancient tombs, we have selected a Western Jin Dynasty tomb dated to the third year of the Taikang era, which was excavated several years ago, and recreated it at a 1:4 scale for display.

3. Ancient Daily Life and Production Tools – This section displays a variety of artifacts from the Shang and Zhou Dynasties to the Ming and Qing Dynasties, including porcelain, pottery, bronze ware, ironware, jade artifacts, gold and silverware, bamboo, wood, and ivory items. These reflect the historical characteristics and cultural connotations of different periods. Both exquisite and diverse, they not only broaden visitors’ knowledge but also provide an aesthetic experience.

4. Ancient Calligraphy and Paintings – This section features 26 pieces of calligraphy and paintings from the Ming and Qing Dynasties through the Republican era, including many works by renowned artists and a significant number created by notable figures in Fenghua’s history.

5. Ancient Furniture Reconstruction Display – Divided into a study, living room, and bedroom, this section vividly recreates the daily life and customs of people in ancient times, allowing visitors to vividly understand the styles and craftsmanship of ancient furniture.

The Historical Relics Exhibition Hall opened to the public in May 2005. Though small in size, its thoughtfully arranged exhibits offer rich content and serve as an important window for visitors to learn about Fenghua’s local history and culture. In August of this year, it was designated as the “Fenghua City Patriotic Education Base” by the Fenghua Municipal Committee and the Fenghua Municipal People’s Government.
