Dayin Stone Quarry Site (including Shanwang Temple)
The Dayin Stone Quarry Site (including Shanwang Temple) is a cultural relic protection unit of Zhejiang Province.
Dayin is one of the important stone mining areas in eastern Zhejiang. It is said that quarrying began here as early as the Han Dynasty and has continued to this day. The stone produced here is of high quality and versatility, widely used in the Ningbo-Shaoxing region and known as "Dayin Stone."
The Changming Mountain Quarry has been in operation since the Ming Dynasty, stretching approximately 2 kilometers from east to west, and consists of Yingjie Quarry, Hejian Quarry, Jiucenglou Quarry, and Bat Quarry. The abandoned mining sites still clearly display traces of quarrying and stone extraction.
The Shanwang Temple was first built during the Tang Dynasty by the stonemasons of Dayin to worship the mountain deity Xiugong. The temple also enshrines the God of Wealth and Lu Ban, with annual worship ceremonies held in spring and autumn. The existing Shanwang Temple is a Qing Dynasty structure, facing south with its main gate oriented east. Current buildings include the mountain gate, front hall, main hall, wing rooms, shops, and office buildings. The overall layout is largely preserved, serving as a site for the stonemasons of Dayin to conduct worship, discussions, and business operations.
The ancient stone quarry sites and Shanwang Temple bear witness to the stone culture of Dayin, reflecting both dynamically and statically the history of the stone quarrying industry and transportation in the region.
