The 2nd "Belt and Road" China Siming Mountain 100km Mountain Outdoor Sports Challenge & 2019 CHINA100 Mountain Trail Series commenced on November 9 at the Siming Mountain National Forest Park in Yuyao City, Zhejiang Province.
The event was jointly organized by the Chinese Mountaineering Association, the Ningbo Municipal Sports Bureau, and the Yuyao Municipal People’s Government, and hosted by the Yuyao Municipal Bureau of Culture, Radio, Television, Tourism and Sports, as well as Beijing Kusai Tongce Sports Culture Communication Co., Ltd. It was co-organized by the Ningbo Outdoor Sports Association, Yuyao Sports Federation, Yuyao Sports Management Service Center, and Yuyao Outdoor Sports Association. The race featured categories including a 102km men’s and women’s division, a 56km men’s and women’s division, a 22km mountain full-course division, and a 14km mountain half-course division. Over 1,500 athletes from 12 countries and regions participated in the Siming Mountain 100km challenge. The challenging course of the Siming Mountain National Forest Park attracted a large number of international elite athletes.
The total prize money for the event was 300,000 RMB. All race categories started from Yutu Island within the Siming Mountain National Forest Park, with the finish line at Hengkantou Village. The 102km category had a total ascent of 5,514 meters and descent of 5,480 meters, with a cutoff time of 24 hours. The 56km category involved a total climb of 2,635 meters and descent of 2,599 meters, with a cutoff time of 13 hours.
In the end, Li Bo from Chongqing won the men’s 56km category, while Yang Hua from Guizhou claimed victory in the women’s 56km division. In the 102km men’s category, Liang Jing from Anhui took the title with a time of 10 hours, 34 minutes and 51 seconds; the women’s 102km crown went to Xiang Fuzhao from Guizhou, who finished in 12 hours, 41 minutes and 25 seconds.
This marked the second time Yuyao City has hosted a 100km mountain outdoor sports challenge. Currently, Yuyao is accelerating the integrated development of sports, culture, and tourism. With openness and innovation as its guiding principles and mutual benefit as its goal, the city positions itself as the core carrier of Ningbo’s Comprehensive Pilot Zone for the Belt and Road Initiative. Emphasizing port connectivity, investment and trade facilitation, industrial and technological cooperation, financial and insurance services, and people-to-people exchanges, Yuyao is actively building a Belt and Road port logistics center, a pioneering zone for trade facilitation, a leading area for industrial-tech collaboration, a demonstration zone for financial services, and a gateway for cultural exchange. Meanwhile, the construction of the Siming Mountain Provincial-level Tourism Resort is progressing rapidly. Efforts are being made to fully leverage Yuyao’s unique cultural and natural resources, develop the area’s potential in sports and leisure industries, and cultivate premium “one-county-one-event” competitions. The focus is on creating a series of sustainable “sports+tourism+culture” branded events that carry the Yuyao imprint and offer economic and social value. These initiatives not only support the national health strategy and promote fitness among the public but also create new economic growth drivers and boost regional development. Notably, high-profile events enrich the story of Yuyao, elevate its urban profile, enhance civic pride and cohesion. To this end, Yuyao has rolled out a comprehensive and well-coordinated set of measures and launched a diverse range of engaging activities.
The competition was held at the Siming Mountain National Forest Park, which spans a total area of 6,665 hectares and is primarily located in Siming Mountain Town, Yuyao City. Known as the “Second Lushan Mountain” in Zhejiang, Siming Mountain boasts dense forests, verdant peaks, crystal-clear waters, and a rich diversity of wildlife—offering an exceptionally pristine environment often referred to as a natural “oxygen bar.” Siming Mountain was once one of China’s revolutionary bases and one of the seven major guerrilla zones in southern China, serving as a key area of activity for the Eastern Zhejiang Column. Yuyao is a county-level city under the jurisdiction of Zhejiang Province, situated on the Ningbo-Shaoxing Plain in China’s Zhejiang Province, on the southern wing of the Yangtze River Delta. It is the birthplace of the Yaojiang School of Thought, as well as the hometown of notable figures such as Wang Yangming, Yu Shinan, Huang Zongxi, Jiang Menglin, Yu Qiuyu, and Shen Junshan. The famous Hemudu Site is also located in Yuyao.
The 100km trail race is a professional event that the Chinese Mountaineering Association has been actively developing in recent years. Despite its long distance and challenging route, its unique experience has attracted many elite athletes. CHINA100 is also recognized as one of the premium events among numerous 100km trail races.
