The Dongcheng Site is a cultural heritage protection unit of Ningbo City.

The Dongcheng ancient cultural site is located in Dongcheng Village, Hemudu Town, just 2.5 kilometers across the Yao River from the Hemudu Cultural Site. It lies only 500 meters from the southern bank of the Yao River. The site covers an overall area of nearly 10,000 square meters, with a cultural layer about 80 centimeters thick. In 1979, some samples of impressed hard pottery and an intact impressed hard pottery jar were collected at the site. In April 1985, a trial excavation was conducted by the provincial archaeological institute, during which Shang Dynasty pottery shards as well as porcelain shards from the Six Dynasties to the Tang and Song dynasties were discovered. Later, pottery shards of three types—sandy red pottery, clay red pottery, and impressed hard pottery—were also found and collected. Judging from the shapes of the pottery shards, the vessels were relatively large but featured diverse decorations such as meander patterns, grid patterns, rice-character patterns, straight-line patterns, thunder patterns, feather patterns, and irregular curved lines. Impressed pottery was relatively abundant, fired at high temperatures, and had a hard texture with a crisp ring when struck. It came in various colors including purple, red, and gray, demonstrating a high level of artistic and firing technique. Based on sample analysis, the site dates back to the Shang and Zhou dynasties, reflecting the craftsmanship standards achievable around 3,500 years ago and marking the level of civilization of that era.

The Dongcheng ancient cultural site was listed as a municipal-level cultural heritage protection unit in October 1987.
