Former Residence of the Chen Family in Yuyao
The former residence of the Chen family in Yuyao is a cultural relic protection unit of Yuyao City.
The former residence of the Chen family is a residential building from the Qing Dynasty, located in Guanqiao Natural Village, Erliushi Village, Sanqi Town.
The basic layout and appearance of the Chen family residence have been preserved to this day. It is relatively large in scale, covering a total area of 2,645 square meters, with a construction area of about 3,200 square meters. Facing south and situated along a central axis, it features, from south to north, a front building, a rear building, and a rear wing house, with wing buildings on both the east and west sides. The front and rear buildings each have five bays, the rear wing house has seven bays, and the wing buildings each have three bays.
This residence was the birthplace of seven Chen brothers, including Chen Bulei, Chiang Kai-shek’s chief aide, as well as their cousin Chen Qihuai (the brothers being Chen Bulei, Chen Mianfu, Chen Shuliang, Chen Xingshu, Chen Shudui, Chen Shushi, and Chen Shutong). Most of the Chen brothers later became prominent political figures or renowned scholars. Chen Bulei not only was born here but also spent his childhood and adolescence here, and returned to live here many times in later years. As an important historical residence, the Chen family residence holds significant historical value for understanding and researching the life paths of Chen Bulei and his brothers.
On May 18, 2001, the Chen family residence was designated as a municipal-level cultural relic protection unit by the People's Government of Yuyao City.
